GSE begins construction of a new Data Center in Barcelona

AQ Compute is driving this innovative and sustainable project, involving the collaboration of GSE, a company firmly committed to excellence in the construction of technological infrastructure

GSE Spain announces the start of construction for the first building of the new AQ-BCN1 data center in Parc de l’Alba, Cerdanyola del Vallès, Barcelona. This project, promoted by AQ Compute, marks a significant step in the expansion of sustainable technological infrastructure in Europe.

The 60 MW campus will feature independent data center buildings, with the first phase offering a total power capacity of 15 MW. Designed with sustainability principles, the center will operate using 100% renewable energy and will include cooling systems tailored to high-density racks, meeting artificial intelligence (AI) requirements. The facility will span a total area of 43,000 m².

GSE Spain will play a crucial role in this project, bringing its extensive experience in project management and the construction of complex infrastructure. GSE will work closely with CBRE, acting as the project manager, and PQI, a partnership between PGI Data Centers and PQC, AQ Compute’s design partner.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 27, with the participation of David Ferrer i Canosa, Secretary of Digital Policies of the Generalitat of Catalonia; Carlos Cordón, Mayor of Cerdanyola del Vallès; Henry Daunert, General Manager of AQ Compute; and Joan Carles Aguado, Country Manager of GSE Spain and Portugal.
